It’s time for Susanna Leonard Hill’s 3rd annual Valentiny writing contest. If you haven’t already done so, head here to read the rules, and some pretty amazing Valentiny entries. I hope you enjoy my 213 word entry.
The Princess Frog
Frog hopped down to the pond. Tomorrow was Valentine’s Day, and he needed to collect lily flower Valentines. Across the pond he saw the most beautiful lily flower. Just as he was about to grab it, a hand came down.
“Hey!” said a girl, “That’s my lily flower!”
“You’re not even a frog,” said Frog, “Why do you want a lily flower?”
“I’m hoping to use it to attract the most handsome frog to kiss tomorrow, and turn him into my prince,” said the girl.
“That’s just a myth,” said Frog.
The next day at school Frog’s friends were missing. He hopped to the pond. His friends were getting kissed and turning into princes. He saw the girl from yesterday holding the wilted lily flower.
“What have you done to my friends?” Frog shouted.
The girl was crying.
“What’s the matter?”
“I kissed the frogs, but none of them turned into MY prince,” the girl cried.
Frog felt sad for her, and gently kissed her cheek.
POOF!
The girl turned into a lovely frog princess.
Frog said, “Wait here.”
He hopped to the other side of the pond, returning with the most beautiful lily flower.
“Would you be my Valentine?’
The Frog Princess smiled, and said, “Yes!”
Together they lived hoppily ever after.
What a lovely story!

Hoppily ever after, indeed! Nice twist on the typical frog-princess story. Especially all the “not MY prince” frogs. 🙂 Wish you the best of luck with this story.
