Valentiny Winners!

The Valentiny winners have been chosen and I’m so happy for the winner Mary Warth with her amazingly well written, piece titled “Red” (my personal favorite).  If you haven’t had a chance to read it, I’ll post it below since I don’t think Mary has a website.  I’m proud to say my story The Princess Frog won honorable mention.  Thank you to Susanna and her judges for all their hard work and dedication. If you want to see the list of the all the winners go here. Until next year…

Red

She read my face,

with just one look.

My bright red face-

an open book!

Red cheeks

Red chin

Red neck

Red nose.

She read my face

And now she knows.

I sent the card,

without my name.

but now my face

takes all the blame.

Red hearts

Red paint

Red “X”

Red “O”s

She read them all

And now she knows.

I hope that what my good friend read,

will please, please stay inside her head!

She gave a nod, a smile, a wink.

My bright red face cooled down to pink.

Villains Got Talent

The 3rd annual Valentiny writing contest is now open.  If you haven’t done so already, head here to check out the rules, and read some amazing Valentiny entries.  I decided to bring back my lovable characters The Evil Dr. Gerbil and Wonder Weasel for this 214 word entry.  I don’t normally enter twice, but I couldn’t resist bringing back these guys. Hope you all enjoy!

Fox Breaking News…

“Turn that off Patty!”

“But why Evil Gerbs? You’re famous.”

“I’m not famous, I’m infamous.”

“Same difference.”

“Not to me. When I was a pup, do you think I wanted be The Notorious Evil Dr. Gerbil?

No, I wanted to be a star! I had talent you know, big dreams.”

“Well then,” Patty said, “Why don’t you enter the Valentine’s Day, Villains Got Talent Show?”

“I secretly hoped for a shot on that show. Imagine, ME, The Evil Dr. Gerbil a STAR!”

MEANWHILE BACK AT POLICE HEADQUARTERS…

“Wonder Weasel, any leads on Dr. Gerbil’s whereabouts?”

“No Commissioner Wallaby, not yet. But I have an idea, and I’m hoping I’m right.”

“What is it WW?”

“The Valentine Villains Got Talent show is tomorrow. I know that rodent would like nothing more than a shot at legitimate stardom.”

“Well, that’s it then, stake out the joint. This may be your chance to finally nab that lab rat once and for all.”

“I hope you’re right Commissioner.”

“For you’re sake Wonder Weasel, I hope you’re right!”

DAY OF THE VALENTINE’S VILLAINS GOT TALENT SHOW

“And the winner is…The Evil Dr. Gerbil”

Click, click, click, click.

“You’re under arrest Dr. Gerbil”

“Wonder Weasel, how’d you know I’d be here?”

“Let’s just say I had hope….”

The Princess Frog

It’s time for Susanna Leonard Hill’s 3rd annual Valentiny writing contest. If you haven’t already done so, head here to read the rules, and some pretty amazing Valentiny entries.  I hope you enjoy my 213 word entry.

The Princess Frog

Frog hopped down to the pond. Tomorrow was Valentine’s Day, and he needed to collect lily flower Valentines. Across the pond he saw the most beautiful lily flower. Just as he was about to grab it, a hand came down.

“Hey!” said a girl, “That’s my lily flower!”

“You’re not even a frog,” said Frog, “Why do you want a lily flower?”

“I’m hoping to use it to attract the most handsome frog to kiss tomorrow, and turn him into my prince,” said the girl.

“That’s just a myth,” said Frog.

The next day at school Frog’s friends were missing. He hopped to the pond. His friends were getting kissed and turning into princes. He saw the girl from yesterday holding the wilted lily flower.
“What have you done to my friends?” Frog shouted.

The girl was crying.

“What’s the matter?”

“I kissed the frogs, but none of them turned into MY prince,” the girl cried.

Frog felt sad for her, and gently kissed her cheek.

POOF!

The girl turned into a lovely frog princess.

Frog said, “Wait here.”

He hopped to the other side of the pond, returning with the most beautiful lily flower.

“Would you be my Valentine?’

The Frog Princess smiled, and said, “Yes!”

Together they lived hoppily ever after.
