Today is Dr. Seuss’ Birthday…hooray! His books molded my childhood, and made reading visual and visceral with his imaginative characters and inventive language. In honor of this special day Vivian Kirkfield is graciously hosting her second annual #50Preciouswords writing challenge. Writers are challenged to write a story in 50 words or less, you can go here for all the details.
The impetus for #50preciouswords evolved from a writing challenge presented to Dr. Seuss by Bennett Cerf, his editor at Random House in which he was impelled to write a story using no more than 50 unique words (not the word count). The end product…Green Eggs and Ham. Wow, what a way to step up to the plate!
If you’re a writer, please join in on the fun of this wonderful challenge, however, if you’re just a passive observer then head over to Vivian’s site and enjoy all the talented entries…you won’t be disappointed.
Please find my entry below at 49 words. I hope you enjoy it!

Jean. I can SO relate to your story 🙂 The rhythm is unique and represents the boy and the mood perfectly. Caring for a dog can be therapeutic. It teaches us empathy and responsibility.
